Web Designer

The Web Designer is responsible for the design, buildout, implementation and support of websites for our clients. This full-time, onsite or remote position requires strategic design thinking and problem solving skills, as well as experience with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript). This is a people-oriented, team-first job that requires collaboration with internal teams to exceed client goals. 

The Web Designer will need to have excellent visual design skills and be proficient in graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. In addition, he/she must be able to articulate their design choices well with The A Group and our clients. This position requires strategic design thinking and problem solving skills, as well as experience with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS and some Javascript). He/She must be able to correlate the design they create with marketing objectives that are driven by creative briefs, The A Group’s creative director and client input. Working closely with account managers, developers and executive staff, the Web Designer will work to provide solutions that exceed the expectations of our clients. 


  • Conceptualizing creative ideas for The A Group and our clients
  • Create beautiful web design for both mobile and desktop screens that adhere to common web standards
  • Explaining design decisions, in a simple and professional manner, and correlating them to client's marketing objectives, in both internal meetings and client presentations
  • Testing and improving the design of websites
  • Maintaining the appearance of websites by enforcing content standards
  • Provide accurate estimates of time needed for web updates and client change requests
  • Designing visual imagery for websites and ensuring that they are in line with branding for clients
  • Working with different content management systems
  • Communicating design ideas using site maps and wireframes
  • Incorporating functionalities and features into websites
  • Designing sample pages including colors and fonts
  • Preparing design plans and presenting the website structure

Required Skills

  • Intimate working knowledge of Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
  • Solid understanding of HTML5 and CSS3 standards and best-practices with the capacity to hand-code web pages from scratch (no Dreamweaver)
  • Understanding and experience with UX/UI
  • Experience with WordPress or other CMS – specifically, creating/editing templates and themes OR
    Familiarity with a popular PHP Template Engine (Twig or similar) or incorporating logic into HTML markup (“if” statements, “for” loops, and the like)
  • Knowledge of current web trends and technologies
  • Experience in Responsive/Mobile design
  • Sophisticated design sensibilities must be evident
  • Understand the nuances of designing for various technologies (web browsers vs. email clients vs. mobile platforms)
  • Experience with SASS/SCSS

Nice to Have

  • Javascript and/or jQuery skills
  • Understanding of GIT or other version control solutions
  • Print design experience - working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
  • Brand logo design experience
